2017 Boars' View Chardonnay
With the ideal and moderate temperatures on the Sonoma Coast, the 2017 vintage created wines with remarkable balance, fine acidity, and great vibrancy. Our 2017 Boars’ View Chardonnay displays all of these classic hallmarks. Hints of lemon confit, flowering jasmine, and dried apricots are joined on the palate by notes of toasted almonds, brioche, and crème caramel. The lush cornucopia of aromas is balanced with hints of provocative limestone minerality that together represent the finest expression of Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. The result is a gorgeous wine possessing a silky, round mouthfeel with a singular elegance.
The 2017 season provided an ideal complement of weather conditions perfectly suited to growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. While the inland regions experienced higher than normal temperatures throughout the summer that crescendoed with a heat wave over Labor Day, Sonoma Coast vineyards enjoyed maritime influenced moderate conditions that allowed for temperatures to warm slowly in the morning and then become mild quickly in the evening. Overall, our peak heat temperatures were lower and their duration shorter which produced a generous ripening window that created voluminous lush flavors, super-rich character, and great natural balance in the wines.
Rated 93 pts. Slightly lighter gold-hued than the 2016, the 2017 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is another riveting Chardonnay from Thomas Brown. Honeysuckle, marmalade, caramelized peaches, and spice notes all dominate the bouquet, and it's a more focused, linear wine compared to the 2016 yet still has beautiful depth and purity. This is another powerful wine that will be loved by California Chardonnay lovers out there.
