Boars' View Chardonnay

Great wines begin in the vineyard...period. To make wines of true distinction, vineyard planning decisions are carefully made based on what the soil and microclimate tell you, not on your own thoughts and preconceptions. When we began examining the unique terroir of Boars’ View, we discovered a small section of Coastal Clay perched on the highest slope of the Boars’ View estate. While the Goldridge Loam covering the lower slopes was a perfect fit for Pinot Noir, we knew this small plot was calling for Chardonnay. Planted to 100% Wente clone, our Boars’ View Chardonnay is an incredibly rich wine, offering wonderful fruit aromatics that are a signature of the Sonoma Coast yet maintaining incredible structure that is distinctively Boars’ View.

The temperate winter of 2016 gave an early start to the growing season and the warm sunny days of spring provided the ideal conditions for an even fruit set. Summer progressed with even, full sun days which is exactly what every winemaker dreams of each vintage. The moderate weather towards the end of the summer allowed us extended hang time and the crop was among the most beautifully ripened berries we have seen in our history on the Coast, and showed immense character and wonderful depth of flavors. — Thomas Brown
