Pinot Noir

Boars' View Pinot Noir

The presence of Goldridge Loam soil throughout the majority of the Boars’ View Estate was a blessing for Thomas and his love of California Heritage Pinot Noir. Marked by a yellowish, fine sandy surface, Goldridge Loam soil offers excellent drainage and low soil fertility — a perfect fit for low yield, high quality Pinot Noir vineyards. Pinot Noir grapes thrive in stressful environments, which create minimal foliage growth while maximizing flavor development within tiny berries. The soil at Boars’ View Estate was the perfect fit to concentrate flavor and produce wine with bright, well-balanced acid, ultimately leading to the intriguing and profound wine that is Boars’ View.

The wine coming from Boars’ View continues to deepen and show its range of lush fruit aromatics. Spending 10 months in a complement of the finest François Frères and Remond French oak barrels allows this Pinot Noir to develop and emerge with more nuanced flavors and sweet oak notes that perfectly match the fruit forward qualities of the wine.

The warmer than normal spring of 2016 provided the ideal conditions for an even fruit set. The subsequent temperatures during the summer were also even and without any drama, which is exactly what every winemaker hopes for each vintage. The fruit was allowed to ripen slowly and fully develop “from top to bottom”. The moderate weather towards the end of the summer afforded more hang time on the vines and the opportunity to select the best possible harvest date. — Thomas Brown
