Planted in 2007, the Boars’ View vineyard is just under 11 acres and located near the town of Cazadero along Bohan Dillon Road in the Fort Ross – Seaview AVA. Thoughtfully designed to take advantage of the multiple soil types, we cultivate nearly 10 acres of Pinot Noir, specifically farming Calera, Mt. Eden, and Swan heritage clones of Pinot Noir and about one acre of Wente clone Chardonnay. This acreage naturally limits our yields, and the unique clones allow Thomas to thoughtfully separate hand-harvested lots to create our expressive Pinot Noirs and Chardonnay.
The vineyard is primarily composed of Goldridge Loam soil that shows a yellowish, fine sandy surface and offers excellent drainage with low fertility — ideal for cultivating low yield, high quality Pinot Noir with full body and expansive character.
Our vines are in their prime, the ‘sweet spot’ of their development offering yields with considerable concentration and consistency from which we can make the most expressive, elegant wines possible.
“The 2024 growing season began with a cool start, keeping soil temperatures low and delaying budbreak once again, allowing the vines to ease gradually into the season.
Summer temperatures were warm and consistent, with no significant heat events. Crop size was larger-than-average this year, with generous cluster size and uniform berry set across blocks.
The warm, even conditions continued into early Fall. Harvest commenced at an unhurried pace, with each block picked at peak maturity. “ – Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown.
CRITICAL PRAISE, 2024 vintage Rated 96. The 2024 Estate Pinot Noir “The Coast” comes from the same vineyard at 1,000 feet on three ridgelines and leans into red fruit from the Calera clone with more structure. Preserved cranberries, juniper, and mountain spice emerge. Full-bodied, with ripe tannins, supple richness, resonating sapidity, and refreshing acidity, it feels more refined now, with polish, purity, and compact elegance. Bravo. Mouthwatering lift carries through the finish. Drink 2026-2046. – Audrey Frick, www.jebdunnuck.com

While the Goldridge Loam covering the lower slopes was a perfect fit for Pinot Noir, we knew this small plot of clay soils called for Chardonnay, so we planted the Wente Chardonnay clone. Our Boars’ View Estate Chardonnay is an incredibly rich wine, offering wonderful fruit aromatics, opulence, and cellarability that are a signature of some of the finest Chardonnays grown on the West Sonoma Coast.
The Boars’ View Chardonnay is incredibly limited, as we farm just under one acre on our estate vineyard. The 2024 Boars’ View Chardonnay is aromatically floral and crisp, with a luxurious mouthfeel and pitch-perfect acidity throughout the entire trajectory. In the glass, this wine radiates a pale honey hue. Aromas emerge in waves, suggesting white lilac, lemon oil, peppercorn, and crushed flint. The sleek palate is layered with mouth-watering notes of lychee, brass, crème brulee, jasmine, lime pith, and apricot. The weighty mid-palate is balanced by vivacious acidity and a lithe floral finish.” — Winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown
CRITICAL PRAISE, Rated 95. From a vineyard of less than an acre and entirely Wente, the full-bodied 2024 Chardonnay offers structure and bright acidity. With a youthful, uniform yellow hue, it’s flush with wet stone, savory fresh herbs, lemon and orange oils, and savory spice. Full-bodied but not heavy, it has savory bitter almond and citrus on the finish, with hints of resinous tones while remaining fully dry. Drink over the coming 8-10 years. — Audrey Frick, www.jebdunnuck.com

Our vineyard, located off Bohan Dillon Road, has more to share. Entering its second decade, the fruit has matured, our clones continue to express their unique characteristics, and we have come to know our rows intimately – knowing which are showered with the rays of the rising sun and which bask in the late afternoon warmth. At Boars’ View we also have more to tell, and felt we needed to expand our offerings to reflect the vineyard’s continuing evolution and introduce our Boars’ View BDR Pinot Noir. Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown relies on clonal selection and barrel regimen to craft a wine that is enjoyable upon release and a few years to come.
If the Boars’ View Estate Pinot Noir is the showboat wine in the Boars’ View collection, the Boars’ View BDR Pinot Noir acts as the brooding dark star. Precise, nuanced, and full of West Sonoma Coast brilliance. Complex aromas emerge from the glass in waves, suggesting black cherry, orange oil, oolong tea, and forest floor. The structured palate offers a layered profile of bramble fruit, silt, quince, and violet. The extended floral finish draws out fine notes of rose hip. This is a gorgeous wine that accurately reflects vintage and site. With some time in the cellar, the wine will begin to blossom and become even more giving. – Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown
CRITICAL PRAISE, Rated 94+ From the vineyard’s location on Bohan Dillon Road, the deep red 2024 Pinot Noir BDR packs in a good deal of intensity on the nose, with notes of black tea, currants, black raspberries, and fresh lavender. I really enjoy this vintage aromatically. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with a weightless feel, gravelly stone undertones, and cooling mineral lift. Drink 2026-2046. – Audrey Frick, www.jebdunnuck.com
